But it does leave me feeling like I've missed something big. This isn't to say I don't like the stories - I loved them. Therru's true identity is barely hinted at but fully revealed last minute. Some of the most important parts of the stories - like the peace rune being made whole, most of Ged's interactions with dragons, all of his tenure as Archmage - happen off-screen.

Cob appears out of nowhere almost at the end and is dealt with swiftly as well. Major events come and go in a matter of pages, never to be spoken of again - Ged's entire upbringing to the point where he left Roke takes a mere 75 pages (in this printing) - I'm certain I've read books where the introductory world setting is still being done 100 pages in. However, when I think back on what I just read, it feels more like it's about the day to day than the actual story.

The time span was an interesting touch, as was the changing characters and their day to day lives over time. It's a very different type of story to the other fantasy I've read, in many more ways than one.
